The sacred teachings that have been divinely revealed down through the ages have guided humanity through the evolutionary process. Within oral based societies these sacred teachings were passed down by word of mouth. In literate times, these sacred teachings were written down and are the holy books of Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá'í Faith.
The poems within this bi-lingual compilation reflect the values and institutions of a patriarchal, insular and European society with many Christian denominations where the transition from tribal communities to a fraternity of nationhood had occurred in a context where humanity's immaturity had rendered many contemporary institutions far from sacred.
